Announcements

*PRAYER CARDS: The ministry of prayer is a powerful gift enabling us to open our hearts and lives, to bring our needs and concerns and to celebrate our blessings and joys with God.    Prayer cards are available in the pew racks and in the front of each hymnal.  You may place your prayer cards in the offering place, in the prayer box at the back of the sanctuary, or hand them to Pastor Gail at the door.  Prayer requests can also be called or e-mailed to the church office (652-2150).  Please make the prayer list printed in the bulletin a part of your daily time of prayer.

*SOCIETY OF ST. ANDREW:  We received this note this week from the Society of St. Andrew:  “Dear sisters and brothers in Christ, Your caring hearts make all the difference!  For the hungry families who will receive some of the 18,818 servings of fresh healthy fruits and vegetables you are sharing you’re your $451.65 Lenten gift to the Society of St. Andrew, your gift means they will go to school or work well fed.  It means their chronic illness will be better managed through healthier eating.  It means the light bill can be paid this month, because you’ve put nourishing good in their refrigerator…All this, because you cared enough to give.”

*OPPORTUNITY TO SERVE:  Our opportunity to serve in May will be assisting with a clothing drive alongside our partners in ministry in North Sumter County, Panola Outreach.  If you have new or gently worn clothing you would like to donate, please bring them to the marked bins in the Fellowship Hall, Sunday School lobby, and the downstairs sanctuary classroom no later than Wednesday evening, May 11. Questions?  Please call Kent Partridge ( 609-7152).

*HWY 11 YARD SALE:  Helping hands are invited to gather on Wednesday evening, May 11 beginning at 5:30 pm (pizza and nursery will be provided) to sort and price items for HWY 11/Antique Alley Sale.  In addition to all of the items cleaned out of the church storage areas, you are invited to bring yard sale items from home to add to the sale as space allows.  All profits from our LUMC Yard Sale will support ARM (the Alabama Rural Ministries).  Volunteers are needed to be present during the HWY 11 Yard Sale from 8am-12 noon on Thursday, Friday and Saturday (May 12-14).  If you would be willing to help, please call Melanie Spidle (499-0388).

*UMC GENERAL CONFERENCE:  The United Methodist Church holds a General Conference every four years to revise, update, and create new policies, resolutions, and laws for the global church. This year, it is going to be held in Portland, Oregon from May 10-20. Please lift up in prayer the clergy and lay delegates gathering from all around the world. Pray for God to guide the General Conference’s decisions, for Christ to lead us into the future, and for the Holy Spirit to empower us to go on toward perfection in our love of God and one another. Whenever the conference is in session, GC2016.UMC.org will feature live streaming video for you to watch the voting, worship, speeches, and celebrations happening on the floor of General Conference.

*PENTECOST:  Next Sunday (May 15) is Pentecost.  You are invited to wear red for worship as we celebrate the flames of the Holy Spirit igniting the community of faith to proclaim the wonders of God and share the good news of Jesus to the ends of the earth.  As we celebrate the birthday of the Church, we will share together in a joy-filled day as we celebrate the decisions of our confirmands to be baptized and confirmed. We will also welcome new members to the family of faith!
